A really good freeborder does not mean a really fast freeborder. Having said that, I'd love to race...even if it were against longboarders.

you'll get shit on. longboards are inevitably faster, given a good rider is using it.
the only way i see a freeborder beating a longboarder in a race is with a super complex, tight course. like a golf path or something.

I can keep up with, and even beat some of, the more experienced local longboarders down the drag strip style tracks, its just around tighter corners that they can whip around far faster, I necessarily must slide and therefore slow down. I've found that I can get in a tighter tuck than most longboarders and therefore go faster.

dunno what kinda longboarders you're riding with, but that sounds completely ass backwards. longboarders don't have to switch edges in a straight, and freeborders can hold a controlled slide thru a corner instead of doing a hard slide like a longboarder.

Today I was at King of the Zig (KotZ), a longboard race on a single lane road with 8 back to back hair pins. On average, I was rounding the second last hair pin as the longboarders were crossing the finish line (unless they crashed). The only time any of us were sliding was through the corners. The problem is that I had to go much slower than they did to make the same tight bend.

Whereas down hill in a reasonably straight line it's down to who has the biggest balls, it up to either you or them to chicken out first- you've both got the same accelerator so the potential speed is the same, the difference is who can get lower to their board.

  • I've used 77mm Yak White cobra scooter wheels with da blues, I thought they were great but that they also made the board too turny- the trucks seemed far looser so I'm now back on 72mm wheels
